WORLD'S LONGEST TUNNEL IN INDIA

The decades long wait is over.

The Prime Minister of India has finally inaugurated the Atal Tunnel in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas on the Leh Manali Highway, Himachal Pradesh.

The tunnel is 9.02 km long. But it reduces a drastic 46 km distance between Manali and Leh.

This is historic achivement. The talks about the highway began around 1960. But nothing was done formally. After 39 years, in 2000, when Atal Bihari Bajpayee became Prime Minister. He was the one who finally announced that a tunnel will be constructed. And now , after 20 years it’s finally done.

Tunnel will be extremely helpful for local population, tourism sector and defence sector as well. We look forward being there. Here are the extra features of tunnel:

  • Emergency gates at every 500 metre.

  • Telephone to use at every 150 metre.

  • Ventilation pumps if there is hot air increase inside the tunnel.

  • Fire extinguishers at every 75 metre.

  • CCTV cameras after every 60 metre.
